Childless not by Choice

Hello there, my name is Civilla Morgan. Are you childless not by choice? Do you know someone who is?

After years of hoping, and waiting, even attempting on two occasions to adopt; I realized I would never have children. It was a difficult time for me, but I decided that I could not be the only woman on this planet trying to figure out how to deal with my situation.

You see, I was not willing to pretend I was OK when I really was not. I wanted children and I was not going to be having any.  I heard all types of comments down through the years from acquaintances and strangers alike. Some meant well, some wanted me to be sure I recognized they had something I would never have.

But through it all, as much as my heart hurt, I also knew there were women worldwide who were going through the same or similar circumstances and feelings. And on top of that, some women are being physically and mentally mistreated.

So I created Childless not by Choice aka 21st Century Hannah. A platform where I speak to and encourage women who are childless not by choice. Check out my episodes, and please tell your friends and family; especially those who are childless not by choice. Thank you!

Podcast episode: Refrigerator Magnets

Hello there!

In this episode, ‘Refrigerator Magnets’, I talk about my recent trip to Switzerland, the magnets and postcards I bought; and how I recognized the places I’ve been just by looking at the magnets on my fridge.

In the Book of Proverbs, in the Holy Bible, there is a verse that says “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” In other words, we can make all the plans we want to, but God has his own plans for us.

We plan our lives, our vacations, our jobs, etc. But what happens when those plans do not happen? We can either stop, and sit out our lives in dismay, or we can continue on the path we have been set on. Either way, life is happening. And before we know it, we are a certain age and we have lived lives of sadness or bitterness because our lives did not happen the way we expected.

But when we look at our refrigerators and see pictures of family members, grocery list reminders, or encouraging words. We see funny magnets we have picked up along the way, or magnets depicting places we have been. We realize life was indeed happening anyway.

We may as well take an active part, accepting what we must, changing what we can, and knowing the difference. Sounds like a familiar saying? It’s a form of the Serenity Prayer:

“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,

Courage to change the things I can,

And wisdom to know the difference.”

-- American theologian Reinhold Niebuhr (1892–1971).

I truly believe there is great wisdom in knowing the difference. In knowing when to change course. In taking part in our own life, even when that life looks nothing like we planned.
